La protagonista de dieciséis años, Katniss Everdeen, vive en un mundo post-apocalíptico donde un gobierno poderoso llamado el Capitolio se ha hecho con el poder después de varios desastres devastadores. En el libro, "los Juegos de hambre" es un evento anual televisado en el Capitolio el cual selecciona al azar un niño y una niña de cada uno de los doce distritos, que luego se enfrentan unos contra otros en un juego de supervivencia y obligados a matarse hasta que sólo queda uno. (Wikipedia). Primer película de una saga literaria compuesta por Los Juegos del Hambre, En Llamas y Sinsajo.
